Tsutomu Karino graduated from Waseda University, Tokyo, Japan with a B.A. Degree from the school of Law in 1965. In the United States, he attended the School of Hotel Management at Cornell University and New York University from 1974 – 1977 where he received an M.A. in International and Corporate Law.
He was appointed Executive Secretary of the Nippon Club in 1977 and in 1988 became Vice President and Secretary. In 1997 he became Executive Vice President and Secretary. In 1981 he became Executive Director of the Japanese Chamber of Commerce of New York, holding both positions concurrently. In 1989 he became Executive Director & Secretary. He was a member of the Board of Trustees of the J.C.C. FUND from 1985 to June 2012.
Prior to joining The Nippon Club in 1977, he was the director of tInternational Market at the Waldorf-Astoria (Hilton Hotels Corporation) for seven years.
Among the offices Mr. Karino holds are: Member of the Distinguished Alumni Association of The Waldorf-Astoria; Board of Trustees of the Brooklyn Botanical Garden; Board of Directors of the New York Law Enforcement Foundation; Board of Directors of the Japanese American Association; Honorary Chairman of NY Shimane Prefectural Association (Kenjin Kai).
Mr. Karino Was born in Shimane-Ken, Japan, on August 26, 1941. His wife, Mizue Sawano, is an artist.
